Staff work spaces

Tonight’s leg of the journey takes us back into Gerry Anderson territory with Imai’s 1/32 Mac’s Car.

Like most of the Imai Anderson models, this looks close enough for government work but still loses a bit to operating features (the wings extend and wheel fold back into flight mode) and firing weapons…it is very big and even in 1/32 will dwarf FAB1…

I pulled this out because I stumbled across a (relatively) cheap Trumpeter 1/48 Vigilante which would fit into a my tandem twin-jet strike collection (also unfinished); on downloading the instructions, I thought that the detailed engines (which won’t be seen once the fuselage is closed up) might not be suitable replacements for the fairly average kit engines…

Tonight I did some work on the ‘cockpit’. It’s beyond basic, offering a single piece molding comprising two seats, the floor and the dashboard – two half figures representing Joe and Mac are provided but again are beyond basic. The ‘original’ also had a singler seat in the back and the kit configuration doesn’t allow space for that.

This is Hans, originally the pilot of the Revell 1/32 Stuka I got for Christmas ’74. He’s been helping me confirm that this model is closest to 1/32.

I’m working through the spares boxes looking for suitable seats. I have found a couple of the armchair ejection seats from the Hobbycraft 1/48 CF-105 which may do the trick but have a vague memory of seats from a 1/32(ish) Countach floating around somewhere…
